Deployment of LvLogics SiloSpi in Animal Feed Mill
Location: Kiernan Milling, Granard, Co. Longford, IRELAND
Objective: To deploy LvLogics Ltd. SiloSpi units on large-scale animal feed silos to accurately monitor grain, finished product and molasses levels and optimize inventory management.
Project Scope
• Site Assessment: Evaluate silo suitability for SiloSpi grain bin monitoring system installation based on size, volume, and structural integrity.
• Unit Installation: Deploy 26 SiloSpi units in one building and 12 in the other, ensuring optimal placement and connectivity.
• Data Collection: Commence real-time monitoring of silo contents using the LvLogics platform.
Installation Process
• Site Conditions: The mill’s active operation and existing infrastructure (compressed air, power, observation holes) facilitated efficient installation. Installation occurred during normal operations.
• Sensor Placement: Units were strategically mounted above fill chutes to avoid direct contact with grain during filling.
• Pre-Installation Checks: Rigorous signal strength assessments (Sigfox and cellular) were conducted to ensure reliable data transmission.
• Sensor Orientation: Units were initially pointed towards estimated low points of the silos, subject to potential adjustments based on operational data.
Configuration and Monitoring
• Data Collection Frequency: Height readings are captured every 30 minutes.
• Operational Monitoring: Automatic reporting of compressor and sensor cleaning activities.
• Alert Thresholds: These are set individually on each bin according to the operational use of that bin. Levels can be set anywhere between 0% and 100% and a high- and low-level alert can be set
• Calibration: Conducted in collaboration with the mill manager / operator to ensure accurate measurements in weight.

By providing real-time data on raw materials & finished product levels, the system enables optimized inventory management, reduced waste, and improved operational efficiency.
